Current Conditions on the Beaver Pond Paddling Trail

Click here for Texas Department of Parks and Wildlife Paddling Trails information for this trail.

May 7, 2012 update: The water level in the Beaver Pond is still very good. It has dropped a bit since the last post, but the interpretive signs are still partially submerged through much of the pond.

March 21, 2012 update: The Beaver Pond is now beyond full...the interpretive signs are underwater! But we are grateful for the big rains on Sunday and Monday. The pond is full, the frogs are croaking, and the paddling trail is a great place to be!

February 2, 2012 update: At last! Thanks to the wonderful large rain event on January 24 and 25, the Beaver Pond is ready for paddlers once again. The whole loop is deep enough for kayaks and canoes. Call 972-219-3930 or click the link above for more information about this trail.

November 22, 2011 update: Despite recent rains, the Beaver Pond is still inaccessibe to paddlers. We will need very significant rainfall over a period of days to fill the pond. Flow in the Elm Fork is still good, so paddlers may want to consider a river trip as an option. Call 972-219-3930 for more information.

August 9, 2011 update: The Beaver Pond is still inaccessibe to paddlers; this will be the last status report posted until we receive significant rain in North Texas.

July 18, 2011 update: The Beaver Pond is not currently accessible to paddlers due to the continuing drought. Paddlers visiting LLELA can put in on the Elm Fork instead and paddle 6.5 miles downstream to take out at the Hebron Parkway bridge. Call 972-219-3930 for more information.

July 6, 2011 update: As this summer's drought continues, the Beaver Pond is beginning to dry up. The shallow northern reaches of the pond have become difficult to paddle through. Unfortunately, this includes the new kayak launch we opened on May 10. The launch is not closed, but we are no longer recommending it as a good launch site. However, paddlers who don't mind walking in mud may still access the pond there. We are hoping for some late summer and fall rains to fill the pond back up. Check back here for more updates.
