IAS is home to one of the best aquatic toxicology laboratories in the Southwest. Researchers and graduate students conduct the entire suite of standard acute, chronic, in-situ, and ambient toxicity tests using freshwater and marine organisms in water and sediment.
In addition, the laboratory is fully equipped to perform ecological surveys of lotic, lentic, and estuarine systems. Recent emphasis has been placed on the use of computer assisted, remotely sensed measures of clam gape as real-time in situ sensors of stress.
