The Center for Environmental Archeology actively pursues interdisciplinary research on past environments, archeology, and Quaternary geology.
Research focuses on geo-archaeology, Paleo-Indian archaeology, and zoo-archaeology. Major projects have been developed in Texas, surrounding states and, most recently, in Portugal and the former Soviet Union.
Facilities include sediment and soils laboratories, a vertebrate paleontology/zoo-archaeology lab with extensive reference collections of artifacts from prehistoric and historic archaeological sites. Researchers emphasize computer analyses of spatial patterning, regional reconstruction of environments and settlement patterns, and applications of remote sensing to geo-archaeological problems.
